Pet Diagnostics & Pharmacy in Windham, NH
Usually, the first step in making a diagnosis on a pet is the physical exam. However, since these exams only reveal what’s happening externally, pet diagnostic imaging in the form of X-rays and ultrasound is often necessary to see what’s happening internally. Canobie Lake Veterinary Hospital’s advanced imaging equipment aids in making fast, accurate diagnoses of several different conditions. Our facility in Windham also includes an in-hospital pet pharmacy to provide your pet with a variety of prescription medications. We continually strive to offer the most up-to-date, highest quality medicine and diagnostic testing available to our patients because we believe they deserve nothing less.
Digital Pet X-rays
Just as with human medicine, digital X-rays are a valuable tool in veterinary medicine. By having your pet X-rayed, we can safely and noninvasively examine him internally. A digital X-ray image is used to evaluate the bones and almost any organ in the body, including the heart, lungs, and abdomen. We can also examine the size, shape, and position of many organs, which is important when performing surgical procedures. One of the great features of digital X-rays is that the images are clearer than film X-rays and are produced much faster. They can also be easily shared via email if necessary.
X-rays can reveal several conditions, including (but not limited to):
- Bladder stones
- Broken bones
- Foreign bodies
- Certain spinal cord diseases
Pet Ultrasound
Ultrasound technology is comparable to X-ray technology in that it allows for a painless, non-invasive, and safe internal examination. An ultrasound works by using high-frequency sound waves to produce a real-time, 3D image of the internal organs. It can be used to examine the liver, spleen, kidneys, and other organs from different angles. The high-definition images that are created allow us to see how the organs are functioning at the time the ultrasound is performed.
With ultrasound technology, we can quickly diagnose:
- Tumors
- Cysts
- Stones
- Inflammation
- Other problems within the internal system
- Pregnancy (heartbeats of puppies and kittens can be visualized to ensure proper development)
