The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) is the only accrediting organization in the United State and Canada for veterinary hospitals. Only 15% of the 26,000 hospitals in the US are accredited and meet the stringent standards and guidelines set forth by AAHA. By choosing an AAHA accredited hospital, you are assured your pet is receiving the best possible care because these hospitals pay attention to the details. Its the details that are important and create the trust you look for in a veterinary hospital.
AAHA routinely inspects accredited hospitals. Hospitals are expected to meet up to 900 standards in all areas such as anesthesia, customer service, pain management, client education, surgery, and infectious disease control; these are just a short list of the 20 areas AAHA accredited hospitals need to meet or exceed standards of care.
Accreditation is no easy task. It requires a team approach with countless hours of writing hospital protocols and standards. Implementation through education and training are key to execution of these standards. I chose to have my three hospitals accredited by AAHA so I could have the framework to provide excellence in patient, client and staff care. I believe AAHA accreditation is a very thoughtful approach to assure that your pet is receiving outstanding patient care while still paying attention to client education and an attentive customer service experience.
